What are the Advantages of Tungsten Carbide over other Metals

In recent times, tungsten carbide has become an increasingly common metal, pushing beyond other more illustrious and famous names in the metals industry. There is clearly a reason for this surge in popularity of tungsten carbide but if you are looking for one single benefit that makes this type of metal better than other metals, you won’t have too far too look. This is down to the fact that there are many advantages that tungsten carbide hold over other metals.

One of the most important factors for any metal is its strength and this is a key component in the benefits that tungsten carbide provides. In a comparison with titanium, itself regarded as a metal of strength, tungsten carbide is far stronger but it is when both are combined that you get a metal with a strength that can only be bettered by a diamond. This means that if you are looking for a metal that can be relied upon, tungsten carbide is a natural choice.

It also follows on that there is a great deal of durability that can be found in tungsten carbide. Given that one of the most common uses for tungsten carbide is with rings and jewellery, it makes sense to compare it to other metals that are used in the making of rings, bracelets and other pieces. In comparison to gold, tungsten carbide is said to be around ten times heavier. It is also thought that tungsten carbide provides a strength that is around four times stronger that the strength of titanium. This will provide an air of confidence with the fact that tungsten carbide will not be bent out of shape. It often doesn’t take a lot to bend a gold or other metal wedding ring out of shape, just one bad day at the golf course can take care of that but with a tungsten carbide ring, you won’t have to worry about this at all.

No scratching here with tungsten carbide

Another factor when thinking about tungsten carbide in comparison to other metals such as platinum or gold is that metals can become scratched or tarnished very quickly. Again, the example of a wedding ring provides great relevancy because these rings can very quickly become covered with nicks and scrapes which will show up. This is not an outcome with tungsten carbide rings so your wedding ring will always remain in great shape. This provides a massive benefit for the style conscious but it also means that you don’t have to pay money to have your ring buffed up or repaired in years to come. This ties in with the ability of tungsten carbide rings to maintain their shine and the fact that the first polish of the ring is often enough to last it for its entire lifetime. Some wedding rings will start to fade or lose their lustre over a number of years but you don’t have to worry about that when you use tungsten!

These are all immediate benefits of using tungsten carbide but there is also the huge benefit in the fact that there is a wide variety of finishes and styles to choose from with this sort of metal. This will mean that you can have the wedding ring or indeed any other tungsten carbide product that you want. We all have different tastes and styles so knowing that you have a sense of freedom when it comes to finding the metal that is right for you is a great thing.

Get the shape you want

Tungsten carbide can be shaped into all manner of different shapes, it can be completed with a number of different finishes including polished, brushed, soft satin and it can even be engraved with a laser. There is also a wide selection of colours to choose from with tungsten carbide and there is even the option to have different materials like diamonds or zirconias laid into the ring. If you were keen to have a gold ring but prefer the benefits that come with tungsten carbide, you can choose a gold plated option which gives the appearance of gold but the reliability of tungsten carbide.

On top of all of this, you will also find that tungsten carbide provides a more affordable option than many other metals, including gold. There are expensive tungsten carbide options to choose from but the full range on the market place will ensure that there is something for everyone.
